Can you hear us now? Are you finally listening? Well, it's gone past the point of matter. America is standing up, and win or lose, she will not go quietly into the night. We are in this to win. We came as individuals to Washington, to see what would happen when the call came for America to help. I left changed. The real, genuine affection I felt from and gave to complete strangers from nearly every state of our union was an amazing experience. We really aren't alone. We really DO surround them. There really still is an America that loves freedom.
We arrived early at Freedom Square, and it was already full, we thought. Then people really started showing up, and the unbearable pressure of the crowd forced it to naturally just bust loose and head for the capital ahead of plan. We had a place on the north lawn close enough to hear the speakers and see them barely through the trees and signs. But the view towards the mall was the breathtaking one. People, down the streets and around the corners, everywhere. A sea.
At one point, a fire truck came racing up to the crowd and began to force it's way in. Everybody around me looked at each other with alarm. "They'd better not do it. It would be a very big mistake!" Fears of firehoses were unfounded, but nonetheless, this crowd knew the stakes and the score.
Favorite moments? When the crowd surged past the "Newseum", and gazed upon the quotations from the Constitution engraved on the edifice, it began to ROAR at the building and at those looking down from the roof, pointing our fingers, chanting:
"READ THOSE WORDS, READ THOSE WORDS, READ......" priceless.
Or how about the signs? The funniest people I've ever known. "
Joe Wilson for Truth Czar". Wow. Or the picture of
Nancy Pelosi with a hole cut in her mouth, so people could throw tea bags in. WOW :) Or the portrait of George Washington standing with his elegant dignity and the words "WTF" coming out of his mouth...... I guess you had to be there.
We even encountered an unhinged Liberal on the street, extremely offended by our presence. "This is MY town" she screamed while pointing at her Obama handbag. She then loudly suggested we go home to flyover country and fornicate with goats.
Now did her mama teach her to talk like that?
We met so many nice people, great Americans, good neighbors, fellow citizens from everywhere. Arizona, Kansas, New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, California, Pennsylvania, and of course, Texas....everywhere we went in town, in bars and restaurants, we greeted each other as old friends meeting for the first time. Unforgettable. But that wasn't the best. Standing outside the capital and joining one million people in singing the national anthem is something I'll carry the rest of my life. God bless all of you, and God bless America. See you again next year.
